Apart from his brilliant ceramic, Axel Salto ran a succesfull career as a painter, graphics artist and author. It is not the traditional, classic style that you connect with Axel Salto or his ceramic.

First painting and then ceramic

As a young painter you connected Axel Salto with cutting edge and a youthful artistic expression. But in 1925 at the World Fair in Paris Axel Salto displayed his ceramic created for Bing and Grøndahl and this was a turning point for Salto that fell in love with ceramic craft.

His ceramics were a huge success and through the following 20 years Axel Salto experimented his way forward to a wide collection of many thousand pieces of cermaic.

Axel Salto were inspired by the forces and energies of nature in his unique ceramics. He had a keen interest in the growth of plants and tried to encapsulate the movement of plants in the shape of his vases.
