Hans J. Wegner is famed as one the great design personalities of Denmark and one of the artists - together with Arne Jacobsen, Poul Henningsen and Børge Mogensen - that did put danish furniture design on the map.

Wegner Bearchair - a hug for life

The characteristic easy chair from Wegner sports organic and reaching armrests and were christened Bearchair when a critic described sitting in it as being hugged from behind by a big bear. Wegner drew his Bearchair in 1950.

Hans J. Wegner served his apprenticeship as a furniture carpenter in 1931 and were later educated as an architect from the Danish Academy.He has designed silver ware, lamps and wall paper but his most important work of art is his chairs. Apart from the famous Bearchair Wegner is known for the Hoop Chair, the chair, the Y-chair and many more.

In 1997 Wegner were appointed honorary doctor at Royal College of Art in London and his timeless pieces of furnbiture art is still in demand all over the world.
