Ole Wanscher 1903-1985
Son of Vilhelm Wanscher - art historian and sculptor. Ole Wanscher´s graduated from the Academy of fine Arts in 1929 with a master in furniture design. In addition to studying under Kaare Klint, Ole Wanscher was also employed by the master from 1924-1927.
In 1929 Ole Wanscher worked as an independent architect with specialty in furniture design. A longstanding corporation with master cabinetmaker A.J. Iversen resulted in numerous exclusive furniture designs - by many considered the culmination of Danish furniture design.
A a furniture architect, Wanscher was particular inspired by the distinguish shapes of British furniture design in the 18th Century. Combined with a strong sense of proportions, destinguished details, exquisite meterials and perfect workmanship, the work of Ole Wanscher has an aristocratic posture.
Since 1950´s Ole Wanscher worked with P. Jeppesens Furniture, resulting in a.o. ´Rungstedlund´, PJ149 ´The Colonial Chair´ and the ´Benedikte´ chair. The co-operation continued until Wanscher´s passing.
