Steen Østergaard is a renowned Danish furniture architect and designer known for his dedication to combining aesthetic design with ergonomic comfort. He was born in Denmark in 1936 and started his education in furniture architecture in 1957 at the School of Art & Craft in Copenhagen. There, he excelled in his studies and graduated with the highest honors and degree from the school.

Throughout his career, Østergaard has won numerous awards and accolades for his exceptional furniture designs. In particular, he received first place in several furniture design competitions, including the 500 years anniversary of Danish upholstery. In 1966, he was chosen as the "designer" of "THE FURNITURE OF FUTURE," further cementing his reputation as a visionary in the field of furniture design.

Between 1962 and 1966, Østergaard worked for the renowned furniture designer Finn Juhl, honing his skills and developing his unique approach to furniture design. He also worked for Poul Cadovius with the brand CADO from 1970-75, gaining further experience and expanding his portfolio. In 1966, he started his own studio, which allowed him to pursue his design philosophy and create furniture that seamlessly blends aesthetics and ergonomics.

Throughout his career, Østergaard has been committed to designing furniture that is not only visually appealing but also comfortable and functional. He believes that it is essential to consider the human body when designing furniture, ensuring that users can sit ergonomically and comfortably in his creations. In 1986, Østergaard moved with his family to England, where he continued to work as a furniture designer. Later, he relocated to Flensburg, Germany, and the south of France, where he continued to pursue his passion for design.
