The Socialist

The Socialist's restaurant and bar area

Designed in 1962 by state architect Hans Christian Hansen, the Socialist was built as an electrical transformer station, and it provided power to the entire city center of Copenhagen for over 40 years. Highly technical in its construction, the hotel property is characterised by an exquisite sense of materiality, and its adherence to the principles of Danish Modern design, namely a clean and visually pleased design dictated by the core tenet of Danish design: Form follows function. This is visible to this day with its unique bronze shutters covering the façade, concrete floor and thick concrete walls, and its large green doors that frame the impressive four-story tall lobby bar. With 31 rooms and suites, multiple dining concepts and a full calendar of social and cultural events, the Socialist is a destination of inspiration and inexhaustible variety.

Location: Bremerholm 6, 1069 Copenhagen
